AP agrees to credit news sources

The Associated Press has adopted a new policy on attribution that seems “duh” in its basic premise: Credit the original news source in member-generated stories that it rewrites for the wire.
The fact that it needs this policy to bring about this practice shows one just how flawed and slow to change the organization has been.
As explained in this post on Journal Register Company’s content blog, this kind of attribution hasn’t been happening, and AP’s members, especially smaller-market newspaper members, have been missing out on the publicity and web traffic that comes from breaking stories that get picked up from the wire across the country and world.
